For Facing Champlain: A Work in 3 Dimensions, the NFB brought together some of Canada's brightest talents, led by writer and director Jean-François Pouliot. This formidable creative team took the framework of 3D stereoscopic film in totally new directions, reinventing the grammar of cinema.
Artist Mélissa Hébert, the fictional descendant of Champlain, attempts to paint a portrait of the famous explorer in an attempt to grasp the essence of the man. In the process, reality steps aside as the the artist passes through a tear in the canvas into the explorer's immense world.
In this 3D clip, we follow a bird as it literally flies off the page and journeys from present day into the past.
