Blackfly

This animated film about the pesky blackfly is based on the song of the same title, written and sung by Canadian folk singer Wade Hemsworth, with back-up vocals by the McGarrigle sisters. It recounts Hemsworth's battles with this quintessential "critter" during a summer of surveying in Northern Ontario.

“My first encounter with blackflies was on a canoe trip I took while in highschool up near Parry Sound. I had thought mosquitos were bad but blackflies are worse. Once we left the water to go on land, the blackflies were a'comin. I used a t-shirt over my head to keep the pesks away and learned to flick them out of my plate of food as I tried to eat in peace. This song could have been our theme song. ”
